I wanted to post this on my Instagram, but there’s so much I wanted to tell/share about this clip.
I’ve been holding off this post for a long time. I was scrolling through Twitter some time ago when I saw a post about someone travelling in Switzerland (or was it Japan..?) and there’s rows of shops with majestic mountain behind it. It was simply… breath-taking just viewing it from behind the screen. I can only imagine if I were to look at it with my own eyes. I would probably find a seat and just stare in awe at the mountain, appreciating e-ve-ry inch of its beauty.
I decided to go back at this unfinished clip as I thought I needed to do something that isn’t work related. I needed to express myself, perhaps emotionally. Not exactly how I’m feeling or once felt, just- my creativity. To be honest, I haven’t done much creative stuff lately, if any at all. I guess it’s the reason why I’m feeling overwhelmed. It took a tight jaw for me to pick-up my device and put things together.
I wanted this clip to be out there. I don’t think it’s my best, but still. I was searching for which song would fit well with this… I needed something melancholic to go with this and so I went with Taylor Swift, Bon Iver - Exile.
Anyway, back to the clip.
I know I’ll sound biased when I say this- but I like how everything is placed in here. Visually and auditorily.
It’s two very different people. Earth and water. One is strong, firm on the ground, and the other is soft, flowing her own flow.
Despite one standing firm on the ground, it’s taken from a higher perspective (just to clarify, not proposing a patriarchy idea here), and the other despite being fluid, it’s taken from an angle closer to the ground.
Although they seem vastly different, if you look closely inside; the direction of the wind, the water to the shore- they’re actually moving in the same direction.
Bottom line, they’re both of the same nature. In every sense of the word. Yet-
All this time
We always walked a very thin line
You didn't even hear me out (you didn't even hear me out)
You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
All this time
I never learned to read your mind (never learned to read my mind)
I couldn't turn things around (you never turned things around)
'Cause you never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)
All this time (so many signs)
I never learned to read your mind (so many signs)

(Taylor Swift, Bon Iver - exile)
I don’t know why but I think this part of the song fits perfectly with what I have in mind about this clip. It just- ties everything nicely.
It’s like they’re walking on a parallel line wanting to meet at a certain point, giving signs at each other but neither saw/heard/received it. Can’t help but think if in real life situation, this is most probably a miscommunication issue. Hahahah
Well, come to think of it, it’s not THAT deep. But a 500 words “caption” wouldn’t be fitting on IG, no?
